♦Background and Experience
Practicing Intellectual Property law since 1999, Sofia Zaslavsky provides legal services that help her clients start and operate successful business ventures.
Prior to founding The Patent Counsel Law Group in 2008, Sofia served as Director of IP Portfolio Development at SanDisk Corporation and as Director of IP and Licensing at Sanmina-SCI Corporation. In these positions, she managed Intellectual Property departments and supervised multi-divisional IP activities in the U.S. and internationally. Her responsibilities included IP portfolio development and management, implementation of corporate IP programs, IP strategy and monetization solutions, joint ventures and licensing, industry standards, IP portfolio due diligence in mergers and acquisitions, and insurance coverage for IP lawsuits. She also managed outside counsel in patent prosecution and patent litigation.
Before moving in-house in 2005, Sofia was in private IP practice and worked as an associate at Fish & Richardson, an international technology and complex IP litigation law firm. Prior to joining Fish & Richardson in 2000, Sofia was a patent agent at Intellectual Property law firm Levin & Hawes. In private practice, Sofia was integrally involved in patent prosecution, patent litigation support, and strategic patent portfolio development. Her clientele included Applied Materials, Inc., Infineon Technologies, Inc., Siemens, Adobe Systems, Inc., Qualcomm.
In 1999, Sofia clerked for Honorable Judge Robert W. Alberts in U.S. District Court, Central District of California.
Prior to practicing law, Sofia supervised Risk Management department at Atlantic Mutual, Inc. and worked for seven years as Sr. Engineer in the Chief Engineer Staff at Bechtel Power Corporation. Sofia's engineering and business expertise extended across various platforms, with an emphasis on electronic and energy related technologies, compliance with technological standards, technical risk control, and insurance coverage for defense and settlement of IP lawsuits.
Drawing upon a unique combination of over twenty years of technical, legal and business experience, Sofia brings a seasoned, multi-disciplinary perspective to Intellectual Property issues facing technology companies today. Having resided in Ukraine, Russia, and Italy, Sofia has a cross-cultural and multi-lingual background. She is a U. S. Registered Patent Attorney who is also certified to practice International IP Law and Comparative Contracts Law.
